Overview

St Stephen's House is an Anglican Theological College, situated close to Magdalen Bridge in a quiet street running between the Cowley and Iffley Roads. Formerly a monastery, with buildings dating back to the 1860s, the college is a charming example of Victorian Gothic architecture.

Centrally located in East Oxford, the college is a 15-minute walk from the city centre. Located on a quiet side street, a short walk from major locations such as the O2 Academy, and the Bullingdon, as well as tourist sites such as the Botanic Garden, and Christchurch Meadows. There are two public car parks located a short distance from campus.

As a working college, this location lets its available student bedrooms for bed and breakfast stays, which, whilst not equipped to hotel standard, all bedrooms are clean and comfortable, with refreshment trays, bedding, towels, and complimentary toiletries. Due to the age of the buildings, there are no lifts available, and the entrance is by steep concrete steps.

The College provides a self-service check-in system, that provides guests flexibility and convenience on arrival. Guests are provided with contact information for staff should they need assistance during their stay, at present, there is no Porter's Lodge at this college.

The stay at St. Sephens House was very nice. The building is located in a quiet street, there is a beautiful garden. The staff are very, very friendly and helpful. The rooms and shower rooms are very clean. You can walk to Oxford city center in 20 minutes, but there are also bus connections. Cafes and stores open 24 hours and supermarkets are close by. Overall, the accommodation at St. Stephsn House is highly recommended for guests in Oxford.

We had a lovely stay at St. Stephen's House. We spent the weekend in Oxford for a friend's DPhil graduation, and St. Stephen's was the perfect place to stay – great location, quiet, clean, and the people were friendly. Good breakfast, too. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to others visiting Oxford.

The staff were lovely & the breakfast was nice. The room was a little run down for the price. Would have been wonderful to have a garden or lounge area to relax in. A mini bar fridge would have come in handy too. Really need a recycling bin for guests to use too. Overall a nice stay. 😊

Quiet and convenient location. Breakfast ( full English), was good but we missed it the first day as we had to leave before it was served. It's a shame there is no takeaway option, like a croissant and piece of fruit say.

This was a superb experience- clean, quiet rooms in the eaves with large comfortable bed , spacious kitchen area and table and chairs in a separate room. Easy to find and a 20 minute walk to the centre of Oxford.
